Welcome
Welcome to our Mature Matters. I recently celebrated my 61st birthday and am happy to launch what I hope will become a mature adult resource center.
The explosion in growth of the senior population is one of the most important developments of the 21st century. Two-thirds of the people who have lived past the age of 65 are alive today. In the United States alone, seniors (age 65 and older) number 35 million and will continue to increase (with women being the largest segment), leading an unprecedented shift in the age of the population. By 2030, the U.S. Bureau of Census predicts there will be about 70 million people who are 65 and older – one in five Americans will be seniors.
My mother is in her 80′s and the idea of creating a forum where we can learn together about the issues we face as we both mature is both appealing and a bit scary. It doesn’t seem so long ago I thought when I reached 60, I’d be old. Now however I prefer to think of myself as being bit more mellow and a bit more mature.
Every week I will post information about our mature matters. Please comment and suggest areas of interest you’d like to see more information about.
